Equestrian Team
About
The Rider University Equestrian Team is a club sport for full-time undergraduate students. Its goal is to instill knowledge and skill in horsemanship and riding. The club will educate members of the Rider University community about horses and related subjects, foster interest in riding, and present members with the opportunity to experience the sport.
LESSONS
Lessons are scheduled with coach Katie Benson of Briarwood Farm based on both the coach's and your availability. Lessons cost $30 for a half-hour private or an hour group lesson. If you are a showing member, you must take one lesson per week throughout the semester. You may, however, lesson as often as you like. Lessons are held at Brookside Stables in Ringoes, NJ. No car on campus? No problem... we try to carpool as often as possible to lessons and shows.
LEAGUE AFFILIATION
Rider's Equestrian Team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) which is the largest Intercollegiate Equestrian Organization in the United States.
REQUIREMENTS
Our team attends about 10 shows every academic year in our region. Riders are required to sign up for shows they wish to attend at the beginning of each semester. In addition to this, as per IHSA rules, riders must complete a lesson with our coaches the week that they plan to compete. Every rider agrees to comply with IHSA rules and proper English show attire is required for the horse shows. You do not have to show up to be a part of our team. If you don't want to compete, you may still take lessons and be a part of team events.
